PROJECT DETAILS
The purpose of this project is to replace the Palisade Avenue over the Abandoned Bergen County Branch Bridge with a new bridge that would eliminate the deficiencies, meet current design standards, and improve safety for motorists and pedestrians. It is the intent of this project to address these needs and improve quality of life while minimizing environmental, access, right of way, and utility impacts.
The proposed Palisade Avenue Bridge Replacement consists of a two-span concrete arch structure to match the overall aesthetic of the existing bridge and be compatible with the historic district. Improving pedestrian and bicycle safety, mobility, and access along Palisade Avenue is a key goal of this project. Proposed safety improvements include widening the approach sidewalk between the Palisade Avenue Bridge and Route 139, adding 1-foot wide shoulders to increase the offset between traffic and pedestrians, providing ADA curb ramp upgrades, and adding vehicle/bicycle shared-use pavement markings.
